Winter is long gone and spring is on the way out, which can only mean one thing: summer has arrived! It's a perfect time to go through your home and change the surroundings to match the season. You want your house to feel fresh and vibrant, especially if you'll be having guests over for summer parties. To do this, you'll need to go through each room, one at a time, to update your home's seasonal colors and furnishings.

Here's our guide on preparing four key rooms in your house for the days of warmer weather and longer sunshine. Whether you have a special getaway just for the summer or are changing your entire home, these tips will help you redesign in a snap:

Whether you have a special getaway just for the summer or are changing your entire home, these tips will help you redesign in a snap

  • Bedroom: White wallpaper and furnishings can make a room seem bright and give it a classic modern touch. Add custom window coverings with a soft, light fabric to let the right amount of sun in during the day and keep the room private at night. It may also be time to change to lighter bedsheets and covers that leave you feeling cool when you sleep. Match these to the color of the drapes and walls for a comprehensive design scheme.
  • Kitchen: White trim works for the kitchen during any time of year, especially when paired with darker wood elements. Let in a lot of natural light to draw attention to your decor and create a relaxing feeling here as well. Summer is a great time to let herbs and flowers sit on the windowsill, too, so choose draperies that are easy to draw back and secure.
  • Living Room: The living room is a great place to add bright, breezy blue colors. You can even incorporate the fireplace mantel  into your planning by placing brightly-colored furnishings and artwork around it. If the rest of the living area is a white or pale color, the more vibrant notes will stand out particularly well.
  • Patio: In its 2015 Summer Design Forecast, Zillow lists some of the colors and accessories that will be popular for outdoor areas this summer. Most notably, they predict that lime green will be the biggest accent color, partly because of the way it easily pairs with natural, sunny colors like yellow. "Expect to see this fresh, natural hue manifest in a variety of materials and textures – from throw pillows and vases to outdoor umbrellas," the real estate company said in a press release. Think of similar colors to use when looking at open or closed patios at your home.
