Why Choose Metropolitan Window Fashions
Metropolitan Window Fashions: NJ’s Award-Winning Custom Window Treatments Team
ANY custom product – whether it be window treatments, flooring, kitchen & bath – ANYTHING that needs to custom measured, custom fabricated, custom installed, should be purchased through a Local, Specialty Showroom, with at least 20 years of experience.
Breaking down the end of that last sentence:
- LOCAL – National chains cannot do custom work – they have given up and subcontract the work to third parties.
- SPECIALTY – Only buy window treatments from a window treatment store; flooring from a flooring store etc. No one can be good at everything.
- SHOWROOM – If they don’t have a showroom, they can take your money and run. Where do you go to complain?
- 20 YEARS - Even if they have a brand name or a franchise, ask how long the individual you are dealing with has been working with the company.
Our Awards & Honors
We have won every major award in this industry, which is all very nice, but the measure of our success is your satisfaction.
Below are some of our honors:

New Jersey Family Business of the Year Award
Awarded by NJ Monthly Magazine and Fairleigh Dickenson University, the emphasis was on family members involved in the business and community service. Awarded to Jay, Gertrude and Bruce Heyman back when we were still known as Fabricland.

Draperies & Window Covering Magazine Retailer of the Year
The first time this national honor was awarded – it went to Bruce Heyman of Metropolitan Window Fashions.

Window Covering Association of America – Lifetime Achievement Award
In recognition of outstanding contributions and service to the retail window coverings industry.

Exciting Windows – Business Owner of the Year
EW is a national network of independent businesses that meet annually to discuss best practices and negotiate vendor discounts.
When it comes to custom window coverings, there are only a handful companies in this market that fit the description above. So what makes us standout from this exclusive group?
Most window covering specialty retailers are ‘mom and pop’ shops with 2-3 employees. We are ‘mom and pop’ too since the owners are married, but we have 20 employees – 7 designers, four installers and nine support staff. Plus, we have won every award in this industry, as proof of our excellent customer service and reputation.
Of course, no one cares about any of this, they just want the best price. As NJ’s largest Hunter Douglas dealer and largest retailer of custom draperies and reupholstery, we can negotiate the best discounts with our vendors. To back up that statement, we offer a 110% Price Guarantee. Buy today and take 30 days to get a competitive quote. If you find a lower price, we will match the price and refund you an additional 10% of the difference.

There are so many variables, since these are bespoke products, but a good guideline is that custom shades and blinds cost between $200 and $800 for a single window. Add another $400-500 if you want them motorized. Custom draperies generally run between $500-$2000 per window.
In our flagship Green Brook showroom, we have in-stock products starting at $50 for shades and $100 for draperies. Limited sizes and fabrics.
YES! We have NJ’s largest selection of fabrics, over 70,000 to choose from – but if that is not enough, you are welcome to bring your own.
Quite simply, because they don’t do the work. They subcontract the work out to multiple third parties – one for sales, one for installation, plus the store staff – all of which leads to confusion, mistakes and higher prices because of all the kickbacks being paid.
Never. As long as you live in one of the 11 northern most counties in NJ. See our territory listing on our website.
There are many good options, but it is important to know that one product may not be enough. Think about a hotel room. Typically they have a room darkening shade along with room darkening drapery panels and maybe even a cornice or other top treatment. The reason for this is that light is like water, it will find a way into the smallest opening. We have many room darkening shades, but there will always be a small light gap between the shade and the window. Room darkening draperies or track systems are the best option for a complete room darkening solution.
A properly insulated window can save 15% on your annual energy bill. Just like with room darkening, layering is the best solution. The best insulation shades are Architella Double Honeycomb shades from Hunter Douglas. The only shade in the market to qualify for the $1200 Federal Tax Credit. Add to that a layer of lined, insulated draperies and you will be cozy all winter. The same products will keep the heat out and the AC inside in the summer.
Five ways. Double AA battery wand. Rechargeable battery wand. Rechargeable battery wand with solar panels. Wall plug or hardwire.
Yes, with the Hunter Douglas Powerview Gen 3 App, our shades can talk to any home automation system or voice command system.
