Spring has finally sprung! It's time to say goodbye to cold nights and sitting by the fire in favor of walks in the park and trips to the ice cream parlor. Now that the balmy days are upon us, there's no need for heavy blankets and dark décor in your New York home. Instead, lighten up your bedroom design scheme for spring with these helpful tips:
- Brighten up: Even though us New Yorkers are known for favoring edgy patterns and black motifs, there's no reason we shouldn't experiment with color this spring. Switch up your heavy and dark bedspread with a lighter and brighter blanket. Then, add an abundance of throw pillows to the mix.
- Change up your curtains and drapes: Now that the sun is finally shining, it's a great time to switch your heavy window fashions for lighter varieties. We love the idea of sheer curtains or drapes, which are lightweight and allow the bright sun to wake you up naturally in the morning and leave you feeling energized all day.
- Furniture makeover: "If you have an upholstered armchair or bench in the bedroom, try painting the frame white and re-covering the seat in a light, springy print," writes Laura Gaskill of Houzz.com. "Armoires, chests and nightstands can also be completely transformed with paint and new knobs. For a bolder look, choose a color like mint, aqua, navy or pink, instead of white."
