How to decorate for a Mother’s Day brunch

Mother's Day is only a few days away! If you're looking for ways to show mom your appreciation for her this holiday, you can't go wrong with a simple and sophisticated brunch. Let your mom take the day off and offer to do all of the cooking, cleaning and set-up work (or enlist your siblings for help.) Be sure to follow these helpful tips to decorate for your celebration:

  • Baker's dozen: If your mom has a sweet tooth, you can't throw a brunch without dessert. Pair a fresh pot of tea with homemade scones for a tasty treat for your guest of honor.
  • Bright blooms: As the old saying goes, April showers bring May flowers. Now that it's finally May, introduce some bright flowers to your centerpiece. The flowers you choose are up to you, but we think that calla lilies and white hydrogenous make a lovely display.
  • Strategic set-up: "Draw a party flow plan and create conversation spots," suggests a blogger for HGTV. "Think about how and where you want guests to congregate at the party. A self-serve beverage or dessert table are great centers of attention and will keep guests out of the kitchen. Simple round and square foldout tables covered with fabric work best.'
  • Sunshine: If you'll be hosting the brunch inside, be sure to let plenty of light in. Sheer curtains are perfect for springtime since they allow sunlight to shine.
