3 tips for creating a kid-friendly space

When you became a parent, you may have had to abandon the bachelorette pad or couple's love nest, but that doesn't mean you can't have a stylish home if you're a mom or dad. Recently, Elle Décor asked professional interior designers to share their tips for a kid-friendly pad. Take a look at some of the ideas below:

  • Create open spaces: Little kids love the feel of open-spaces, which allows them to run around and play their favorite board games on the floor. Even if your child has a small room, you can still utilize floor space. Simply push a twin-sized bed against the wall and stack throw pillows on it so that it doesn't take up the majority of the room and also doubles as a couch. Use stylish throw rugs on the open floor.
  • Pick out child-safe products: Naturally, when putting a kid-friendly spot in the house, you want to make sure to use products that are actually safe for your children to be around! Installing window treatments like cordless systems not only help add to the room's aesthetic, but are completely harmless for kids!
  • Have plenty of storage: From toys to clothes, if you have children, you can never have too much storage. However, storage boxes don't have to be clunky and can actually fit in with your design scheme or simply slide underneath your child's bedroom set.
