California cutie Lauren Conrad has a lot on her plate this spring. The former MTV star is busy designing clothes for her fashion line while preparing to walk down the aisle with her fiancé William Tell. However, this hasn't stopped her from hosting get-togethers with her best friends.

"I've been really busy, but I enjoy cooking. It's nice to spend 30 minutes to an hour just having a drink, making dinner and listening to music," the former reality star tells Us weekly. "It's my wind-down for the day."

If you're planning on entertaining guests at your New York home this spring and summer, you're going to want to check out the following tips inspired by Conrad.

  • Cook your specialties: Although you may be tempted to try a new recipe for your dinner party, it's best to adhere to old favorites that you know are crowd pleasers. On her blog, Conrad states that she often arranges a cheese plate for her guests. She also makes great bacon wrapped dates. Be sure to set out platters throughout your room so that guests don't have to crowd in a corner to get a snack.
  • Set the mood: Different types of parties exude various moods. For instance, if you're hosting a dinner party, candles will create a romantic atmosphere. But if your party is during the day, open up your blinds or curtains to achieve plenty of sunlight.
  • Spruce up your house: Before you invite guests into your home, you're going to want to make sure that your pad is in tip-top shape. Be sure to vacuum your house or apartment and polish any furniture that has been collecting dust.
