Contest Winners

To celebrate our 90th anniversary, we held two contests. A $9000 Hunter Douglas Gift Certificate and a $900 Customer Longevity Contest. To enter the Longevity Contest, you needed to tell us a story about when you first started shopping at our stores. Thank you to the many customers who told us about shopping at Fabricland, North Plainfield in the 1960’s and 1970’s.  We cherish these stories. The winner of the contest was Lonnie M. of Warren NJ who told us this story about shopping at our stores in Plainfield in the 1950’s. Her story is below:

“In the early 1950s, I remember walking down the street in Plainfield with my mother and sister. I remember how friendly Bruce’s Dad and Mom (editors note:  I think these were my grandparents..BH) were in the store. My mother was a seamstress and she made all our dresses. We spent a lot of time looking at the big books with different patterns and then we would stroll through the many rows of all kinds of fabric, trying to make a decision. My mother liked certain manufactures for patterns more than others. She loved Butterick as well as McCalls. Then we would ask a sales associate for our favorite patterns, and she or he would disappear into a “back room”, behind a curtain, as I recall, and then the envelope would magically be handed to my mom. I remember when the prices were more than a dollar, and that was when I learned about inflation! She never bought as much fabric as the pattern required, just a little more than she deemed necessary as she was always very careful to follow the pattern exactly and not make mistakes. She always saved the little fabric that was left over, and used it to decorate a pillow or make a headband or something. We went there if my mother needed anything including any color of thread, buttons, ribbon, advice, and even if she only needed a quarter yard of fabric. Fabricland was and is the go to place for anything and everything! I remember Bernie as young man; he had such a vast knowledge of everything in the store, as well as the ability to teach anyone a technique that would be helpful to them in their sewing endeavors. Then a VERY young Kenny came along, and provided many tips for any project I was working on. They always seemed to be a part of the Fabricland family.”

We are pleased to announce the winner of our 90th Anniversary Contest is MaryGrace Suitovsky! She has won a $9000 Hunter Douglas Gift Certificate. We will be posting videos soon of the live drawing.
