Emmys fashion looks give insight on interior design

Viewers watch award shows for more than just the announcement of winners. Many Americans tuned in to CBS last night to see the fashions of all their favorite TV actors and actresses. Gowns worn on the red carpet showcased hot styles and trends for the upcoming season, both in the realm of fashion and interior design.

"The Emmys red carpet stepped it up with modern catwalk trends, interesting colors and some risks," Access Hollywood reported. "There were romantic lace overlays, graphic black-and-white combinations, strategic skin-baring slashes and tough-girl harnesses."

Metropolitan Window Fashions can show you how to apply these popular trends in your home:

Black and white: The mod look has been popular for years, since black and white is a color combination that never seems to go out of style. Funny girl Leslie Mann perfected the look at the Emmys with a striped J. Mendel gown. You can achieve this balance in your own home by keeping your walls white and decorating with black accessories, including larger furniture pieces and custom drapes.

Color contrast: While black and white contrast is right on trend, so are contrasting hues. For instance, "Modern Family" star Sofia Vergara turned heads in a curve-hugging, bright red Vera Wang gown. She accessorized her outfit with extra-large Emerald earrings designed by Lorraine Schwartz. Although traditionally reserved for the Christmas holiday, the red and green color combo was successful due to the proportions. Take a cue from Vergara in your own home and strategically balance warm, bright red décor with a cooler hue like green.
